As our new Assistant General Counsel, you will provide practical and authoritative legal advice on all commercial and data protection issues to Equifax.
This Attorney position will see you provide legal support to Equifax's Government Vertical, which sits within the Equifax Workforce Solutions Business Unit. The vertical this role sits in, Government, builds a full suite of Equifax solutions for federal, state, and local public-sector entities. You will report to the Senior Vice President-Equifax Workforce Solutions Legal and have a unique opportunity to serve as lead counsel for a significant, fast-growing, and entrepreneurial line of business within Equifax, while also having the support of an established legal department.
Essential responsibilities of the Assistant General Counsel include:
You will interact directly and frequently with Senior Leadership and the Sales and Services Teams: setting go-to-market strategy within the Government space; leading internal and external contracting processes and pursuing continuous improvement in contracting processes and providing guidance on government-specific legal frameworks and structures (i.e., GSA Schedules and FAR regulations)
The position will provide guidance on products and solutions offered by the Business. Responsibilities will include serving as the Legal representative on the Leadership Team, handling the work of other attorneys and non-attorney professionals engaged in government contracting efforts, and negotiating complex deals with customers and other third parties.
Our goal is to advance the usage of Equifax's unique solutions throughout the Government Vertical, conducting contract negotiations in as expeditious a manner as possible while protecting the interests of the company.
You will have the ability to build positive relationships, trust and share knowledge openly to effectively collaborate with business, other in-house attorneys and legal resources and outside counsel.
This position requires a broad business perspective with a deep knowledge of how government agencies (particularly on the Federal level) do business, along with applying this perspective and knowledge to legal analysis and to devise innovative solutions that meet client needs.
All work will require a "business" as well as a "legal" mindset, requiring responsibilities and competencies in negotiation, structuring deals and validation of terms against commercial and industry norms, project management, and team leading that is much more than simply documenting the legal terms of an already agreed upon deal.
Required Skills & Experience of the Assistant General Counsel:
Recent Financial Services industry experience
Law degree from ABA accredited law school and membership in good standing of any state bar; State Bar of Missouri is preferred.
Six to 10 years of significant experience at a law firm, federal government agency, or corporate legal department.
Strong business counselling, communications, conflict management and negotiation skills.
Confirmed experience with federal government contracting processes, procedures, and contracting vehicles.
Proven communications skills, ability to handle opposing priorities in a fast-paced, demanding environment, and ability to exercise good judgment while working autonomously.
Experience representing clients in the education, healthcare, data, analytics, professional services, technology, HR or financial services industries preferred, but not required.
Legal support emphasizes review of marketing materials, general issue spotting, contract drafting, contract negotiation, regulatory review and counsel, providing legal advice during new product development, dispute resolution, and other legal problem solving.
Conduct legal research and communicate findings, including through preparation of legal memoranda.
