The Dow Chemical Company is currently seeking an EH&S Regulatory Attorney to provide legal support in various environmental, sustainability, health and safety disciplines at Dow. The attorney in this role would provide the following:
(i) legal counsel in the substantive areas listed below to Dow management, various client groups and Legal Department colleagues;
(ii) select and actively manage external counsel and experts;
(iii) establish and monitor financial reserves and expense budgets and coordinate with Dow Corporate Risk Management concerning insurance;
(iv) oversee paralegals and administrative staff in the Legal Department; and
(v) proactively communicate to Legal Department management and clients.
While assignments vary over time depending on workloads and staffing needs, the initial assignment will include, among other things, CERCLA case management as well as case management of legal issues involving remediation and reclamation under other federal and state laws and regulations. The position includes providing legal counsel to Dow’s Environmental Health & Safety (“EH&S”) function on numerous topics, such as: federal and state environmental regulatory compliance and auditing (TSCA, OSHA, FDA, RCRA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, etc.), sustainability and climate change issues.
The attorney would be located at Dow’s corporate headquarters in Midland, Michigan and would work in the EH&S Legal group. The applicant must demonstrate strong substantive legal knowledge, judgment, initiative, interpersonal effectiveness, and project management skills.
A Juris Doctorate degree from a tier one or two accredited law school.
At least three to five years of relevant work experience.
The applicant must be a member in good standing of the state bar association of Michigan or another state (with the ability to become a member of the Michigan Bar by reciprocity or by passing the Michigan Bar examination).
