Tackling a criminal by your ownTackling a criminal by your own

legal question If you see a police officer chasing a suspect, and you tackle that suspect, will you be charged with interfering in a police investigation, or something of the like?

legal answer from lawyer E00304481If you are helping, probably not. From a tactical standpoint, tackling the criminal may not be such a good idea. What if he has a knife? What if another officer comes up and sees the three of you wrestling on the ground and mistakenly thinks you’re helping the bad guy? U are not Taser-proof neither Bulletproof? If you played football or hockey you might try a body check or forearm shiver to knock the guy down or slow him up, but getting messed up with him could be a bad idea.
