Associate General Counsel
Job Description
 
I. OVERVIEW

Under the direction of the Chief Legal Officer, Supreme Lending’s Associate General Counsel - Employment will provide legal advice and representation to the company, primarily as relating to employment, human resources, compensation, and privacy.  Additionally, the Associate General Counsel will be involved in day-to-day business activities and will assist the Chief Legal Officer in advising the company and establishing policies to minimize risk to the company and work closely with the operations, compliance, human resources, recruiting, marketing, onboarding, vendor management, leases, and risk departments.
 

II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES     
 

  • Advise the company on employment law matters
  • Draft and negotiate employment, separation, severance, and recruiting agreements
  • Develop and maintain employment, pay, and benefit handbooks, policies, procedures, and training
  • Assist the Chief Legal Officer in managing employment-related litigation, working with outside counsel, and responding to document requests and subpoenas
  • Monitor and manage employee onboarding and termination issues including breaches of post-employment covenants and theft of confidential information
  • Counsel the company on privacy issues
  • Develop effective relationships with internal clients
  • Independently manage legal matters as assigned by the Chief Legal Officer
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 
III. REQUIREMENTS
 

  • Eight (8) + years of significant employment law experience in private practice or in house
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulation at the federal level, as well as the states in which the company operates (headquartered in Texas but California experience a plus)
  • Employment litigation and arbitration experience is required (including experience with the EEOC), with class/collective action experience a plus
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal direction
  • Legal experience and knowledge relating to the residential mortgage industry is a plus but is not required
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with executive management
  • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Eight (8) + years of legal experience in private practice or corporate setting (new law school graduates will not be considered for this position)
  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • License to practice law in Texas (or another U.S. state with the ability to practice in-house in Texas)
  • Excellent computer and Microsoft Office skills
