legal question Is it a crime to threaten to kill a scammer over the phone who keeps calling you from multiple fake phone numbers? What about impersonating as a police officer and threatening them with an arrest? Are both of those situations a chargeable crime?

legal answer from lawyer E00304481Police impersonation is a crime. You can be charged for this and would be convicted if they can prove it was done. You can be charged with making a terroristic threat, or assault, for making a death threat over the phone. Whether you should be convicted depends upon whether your threat caused reasonable apprehension in the other person that you will act according to the threat.
