Summary: The legal internship program with USA Football offers a law school student the unique opportunity to gain real world legal experience working for a sports entity. As the legal intern for football’s national governing body, you will be asked to perform a wide variety of tasks in support of the organization’s two-person legal team. The legal intern will be asked to keep up with the demands of a fast-paced work environment while being provided an insider’s perspective on the legal operations of a sports organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Draft and review various legal agreements including licensing agreements, sponsorship agreements, vendor agreements, facility agreements, etc.
Research and draft legal memoranda on various topics
Prepare policy documents that adopt best practices for events, programs, and general administration
Analyze legal and risk management issues
Education: Current law school student; completion of two years of law school at the time of internship (required)
Completion of a contract drafting course
Interest in sports law, non-profit law, health law, or related areas
Strong research and writing skills
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments
Internship begins May 13, 2019 and ends August 9, 2019
Internship is full-time (40 hours/week)
Internships are unpaid, with a $1000 nominal monthly stipend, plus parking allowance
Reports to Corporate Counsel
Position will be located at USA Football’s headquarters based in Indianapolis, IN
Must secure housing and transportation in Indianapolis
USA Football supports interns seeking academic credit
Interns must identify learning goals and work with supervisor to achieve goals
Examine the organization and its industry/environment
Analyze and interpret functions and responsibilities
Observe professionals in various roles and participate with them where appropriate
Apply academic learning to practical and professional work experiences
Learn how to perform specific tasks
